Most now agree that the private sector model of providing care is badly broken and needs to be replaced. The questions are ‘with what?’, ‘what form should it take?’, and ‘how do we go about doing this?’. In this new Jimmy Reid Foundation paper, the salient issues are laid out and a suggestion is made for how the process to resolve these issues can be undertaken. This involves the STUC calling a high-level summit of non-profit seeking stakeholders. Most obviously, this involves the care workers and their unions. This particular path is advocated in order to provide a much needed balance to the Scottish Government’s own review of adult social care militating against the necessary radical change that is needed.
